FIRE PROCEDURE PLANNING

A "fire procedure" appears to relate to events immediately following an outbreak of fire, but effectiveness at that stage is closely linked to daily routine, and the level of training and staff awareness that has been created. An effective fire procedure encompasses both aspects.

The likelihood of a fire occurring depends on staff diligence in keeping control of potential sources of ignition, on good housekeeping, correct maintenance, and generally following safe practices. That is the start of good fire procedure.

The consequences of a fire are dependant upon the adequacy of planning for that eventuality. Even well planned escape routes, and warning systems are only as good as the level of awareness of those present. Customers and visitors, who may be unfamiliar with the layout, are particularly vulnerable.

A properly constructed fire procedure/policy, including a plan, on which the location of all fire provisions is annotated, is a valuable tool. It can help monitor fire safety behaviour on a daily basis, the maintenance of physical fire safety and escape provisions, and also as a record of fire related tests and training, which will be available to an enforcing authority.

We can help you develop a fire procedure tailored to your requirements.
